Echoview's own data file format for compatibility

The Echoview data file format can be used to store echosounder data and supporting measurements in a reliable and fully-documented file format. This provides a means for otherwise unsupported instruments to record single beam and multibeam data that can then be processed in Echoview.

Files have a *.EVD extension, and contain both XML elements and binary data. Echoview itself both reads and writes *.EVD files.

The following document provides a full description of the file format:

Version 5.0 revision 1
Last updated 5th August 2021

Development of the Echoview data file format will continue in future versions of Echoview, with the latest revision of the definition always available on this page.

We encourage feedback or suggestions for future revisions of the file format.
