1. Spatial distribution of pelagic fish in the Baltic Sea
The successful applicant is expected to support the research work of the Institute for the pelagic species in the Baltic Sea (hence mainly herring and sprat). The applicant will undertake - after thorough introduction - hydroacoustic surveys on research vessels and, for the first time, on modern commercial fishing vessels and analyze the collected data. There is an opportunity to participate in the working groups of the International Council for the Exploration of the Sea (ICES), with a focus on population and spatial modelling of pelagic stocks, especially sprat. It is expected that the results of the work will be published in various reports and scientific publications.
2. Acoustic telemetry on Western Baltic cod
The successful applicant is expected to organise and conduct the research work on the ecology of Western Baltic cod in a recently installed telemetry grid in the Lübeck Bight together with colleagues from the institute (e.g. tagging of cod with t-bar tags, acoustic transmitters and data storage tags (DST), collection of oceanographic data with sensors and loggers). Available data and new data collected in the telemetry grid and from recaptures will be analysed using modern statistical methods. It is expected that the results of the work will be published in various reports and scientific publications.
