We are delighted to welcome Christine Weldrick to the Echoview Software team as our new Technical Writer. Christine brings an extensive background in marine zooplankton ecology beginning with the study of zooplankton along the Gulf of St. Lawrence (Canada) in 2005.

She recently finished a postdoc with the Australian Antarctic Program Partnership at the Institute for Marine & Antarctic Studies focusing on how changing pelagic and sea ice conditions affect zooplankton communities of East Antarctica. Her Masters work (2011) from the University of Victoria used biomarkers to study the connectivity of an experimental integrated multi-trophic aquaculture facility located in the remote Kyuquot Sound, Vancouver Island.

Christine Weldrick joins our team.

Christine said, “I’m excited to join a highly innovative local Tasmanian company, with a remarkably global reach. My first introduction to Echoview was when I worked as part of the krill team during a research voyage to East Antarctic aboard the RV Investigator in 2021. The acoustics team used Echoview software to track krill swarms for the purpose of estimating their regional biomass. One very magical day, we encountered a dense, super swarm of krill a few kilometers in length that appeared as a giant krill sausage on the echogram. While we settled in the middle of this swarm to analyze it, we were soon surrounded by over a hundred humpback and fin whales—so close we could feel the spray from their blow!”

“I am passionate about projects and endeavors that communicate science through art. I recently end-to-end planned the art exhibition, Drifters Revealed: from the Nets of Tasmania and Beyond, at the Tasmania Museum and Art Gallery as part of the International Zooplankton Production Symposium in Hobart. I enjoy exploring trails and learning about and wildcrafting edible and medicinal plants. I love my cats, traveling to Japan to buy stationery, and visiting Huon Valley farmers markets with my partner.”

Welcome to the team Christine!
