Job Vacancy: Postdoctoral Associate/Senior Postdoctoral Associate at Stony Brook University - New York


The School of Marine and Atmospheric Sciences (SoMAS) invites applications for a two year funded Postdoctoral Associate/ Senior Postdoctoral position for a project using net tows and echosounders to assess copepods in New York and Southern New England waters.

The title/rank will be contingent upon the selected candidate's skills and experience in their area of expertise.


Postdoctoral Associate

The Postdoctoral Associate will conduct research in SoMAS under the supervision of Principal Investigator, Dr. Joseph Warren. The Postdoctoral Associate will collect and analyze acoustic backscatter, environmental, and net tow data from research cruises and a moored instrument to study copepods and other organisms in Southern New England and New York waters. The postdoc will lead research cruises to collect these data sets and examine spatial and temporal patterns in zooplankton abundance and distribution. The postdoc will prepare manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals and will present at scientific conferences. The successful incumbent will have strong written communication skills as demonstrated by prior peer-reviewed publications.

Duties will include:

  • Within the predetermined research scope and methodology, process and analyze new tow, acoustic backscatter, and other data sets.
  • Organize, prepare, and lead the science party in research cruises.
  • Under supervision of Principal Investigator, prepare manuscripts for publication in scientific journals.
  • Work collaboratively with project and lab members on project objectives, participate in lab meetings and training sessions.
  • Present at scientific conferences.
  • Prepare reports and presentations for meetings with funding agencies.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Senior Postdoctoral Associate

Duties will include:
