Industry jobs: Cornell University USA

Echoview fish

Postdoctoral Associate: Cornell University
College of Agriculture and Life Sciences

The College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS) is currently advertising for a postdoctoral associate working on fisheries acoustic in the Laurentian Great Lake.

This position requires a scientist with experience in fisheries and hydroacoustics surveys. The individual will use available and new data collected with active acoustics (sonar). Hydroacoustics is used worldwide in both marine and freshwater environments to estimate distribution and abundance of fish and larger invertebrates, and Cornell is at the forefront of the application of these methods in lakes.

They are now collecting data with automated systems using uncrewed drones that provide unprecedented data on fish and invertebrates in the Great Lakes. The postdoc will work with scientists at Cornell University, SUNY Brockport, and University of Alaska as well as USGS agency scientist at the Great Lakes Science Center. Specifically, the individual will:

1) Analyze acoustic data with existing software (Echoview, R, Python).

2) Collaborate with USGS scientists on field data collections.

3) Investigate the spatial patterns of fish and invertebrates in the Great Lakes.

4) Present results at scientific meetings and to regional management groups and publish in the primary scientific literature.
