Clean up Australia Day - March 2022
Did you know that Australia now produces 2.5 million tonnes of plastic waste each year, equating to 100 kg per person. Of this, only 13% of plastic is recovered and 84% is sent to landfill. This sadly effects our marine environments with around 130,000 tonnes of the plastic we consume leaking into these annually.
By 2025 it is predicted that 99% of seabirds worldwide will have ingested plastic.
In the spirit of Clean up Australia Day coming up this Sunday 6th March, Echoview Software was proud to take part in the annual Clean up Australia Day Business Day yesterday to do our part. We closed the laptops, left the office and hit the Kangaroo Bay Rivulet, doing our bit to step up and pledge to keep our part of the world clean and tidy.
Thank you to our staff who collected over 25 bags of rubbish along this rivulet and surrounds. Every bit goes a long way to supporting the cleanliness of our much loved local waterways, rivers, estuaries and streams.
Also thank to Clarence City Council for helping us with the Rubbish collection at the end!
Clean up Australia Day is on this Sunday 6th August. It is an annual community event to encourage people to come together at thousands of locations across the country and donate their time to clean up and preserve Australia’s incredible landscapes.
