We have identified and fixed three issues that may affect results produced using the Calibration Assistant, or when working with multibeam single targets at extreme angles. These fixes are included in Echoview 16.1.73. We recommend that affected users update Echoview and review the notes below to determine whether any analyses should be repeated.
Calibration Assistant results for single beam targets without angle data
This issue may affect users who have used the Calibration Assistant with single-beam targets that do not contain angular measurements.
For these targets, “Drop in TS from maximum value” is the appropriate On-Axis Definition. For Echoview version 16.0.153 to 16.1.69, this option could appear to be selected in the Calibration Assistant but with a different option actually used instead, causing inappropriate targets to be included and producing incorrect calibration results. The saved report would also list the wrong On-Axis Definition.
The “Drop in TS” On-Axis Definition is now applied correctly when selected. If you have used the Calibration Assistant with single-beam targets without angle data in an affected version, please:
- Update Echoview
- Ensure the correct On-Axis Definition is selected in the Calibration Assistant
- Repeat Calibration Assistant calculations and regenerate any associated calibration results and reports
- Recalculate any analyses that used previously-incorrect calibration corrections
Inconsistent Calibration Assistant results for wideband single targets
This issue may affect users who have used the Calibration Assistant with wideband data.
From Echoview 16.1.46 to Echoview 16.1.69, a performance improvement was added when loading wideband pings in the Calibration Assistant. This performance improvement could unfortunately result in wideband frequency responses being associated with the wrong targets. This has been corrected in Echoview 16.1.73.
If you have used the Calibration Assistant with wideband single targets in an affected version of Echoview, please:
- Update Echoview
- Repeat Calibration Assistant calculations and regenerate any associated calibration results and reports
- Recalculate any analyses that used previously-incorrect calibration corrections
Multibeam single targets used with roll at transducer
This issue may affect users who detect multibeam single targets that have angles outside the range of -90 to 90º relative to the transducer axis, which can be more likely after applying the Multibeam Roll at Transducer operator.
Targets with angles outside the range of −90° to 90° relative to the transducer axis could be displayed at incorrect locations or depths in a multibeam echogram. Exported target positions and related calculations could be affected.
In Echoview 16.1.73 and newer, positions for these targets are calculated and displayed correctly.
If you have multibeam targets with angles outside of −90° to 90°, please:
- Update Echoview
- Repeat the affected multibeam single-target detection and tracking analyses
We also recommend regenerating exports containing target range, depth, true depth, angle or position measurements.
Updating Echoview
These issues are fixed in Echoview 16.1.73.
To update, open the Help menu in Echoview and select Check for Updates, and then download the latest version available, or download from here.
