Media Release: Echoview Software launches Echoview 15

Echoview-15-hydroacoustics-echosounders

We were thrilled to recently release Echoview 15

Echoview Software, a leader in hydroacoustic science and software, is proud to present Echoview 15, the latest release of its flagship data processing software designed for water column research.

Echoview sets the standard in active acoustic data analysis, with the ability to convert raw measurements from a wide range of echosounders and sonars into meaningful metrics. Trusted by scientists, government agencies, environmental consultants, commercial fishery managers, and non-government organizations, Echoview empowers users to transform complex data into valuable insights for ecosystem monitoring, behavioral studies, stock assessment, habitat mapping, and more.

Brett Merritt, CEO of Echoview Software, remarked, “Echoview 15 builds on our legacy of delivering innovative solutions that meet the evolving needs of the hydroacoustic community. This release provides users with powerful new tools which continue to advance the study and understanding of underwater ecosystems.”

Chief Scientist, Briony Hutton said, “Echoview 15 brings exciting new features that further simplify complex workflows and support advanced research applications. With support for new types of data, enhanced platform management and additional analysis variables, users will be able to unlock deeper insights from their data and optimize their research efforts more efficiently. I’m particularly excited about the introduction of Exporter objects to our data processing ‘building block’ space called the Dataflow. Creating and configuring an Exporter means that it’s effortless to repeat exports in the future—you no longer need to step through nested menu items!”

Key highlights of Echoview 15

Support for new data

Building on our strong partnerships with hardware manufacturers and meeting the needs of the research community, Echoview 15 includes support for

  • Kongsberg Discovery MS70: a high-resolution multibeam scientific sonar
  • Additional sources of roll, pitch, heading, and heave measurements in compatible data files recorded by Electronic Navigation Ltd.’s WASSP multibeam sonar
  • Platform and transducer metadata: A selection of values are automatically populated in EV File Properties for Kongsberg Discovery EK60 and EK80 data files.
  • Transducer impedance measurements in EK80 (and related formats) narrowband data.

Echoview now supports data files recorded by more than 75 echosounder and sonar models across 18 brands.

Multiple platforms

Echoview 15 introduces enhanced platform management capabilities, allowing users to compare easily and analyze data from different vessels or collection sites within the same project, each with independent GPS, heading, and depth compensation settings.

Cruise track customizations

Echoview 15 enables users to customize the appearance of cruise tracks and coordinate system grids with new options for line thickness, colors for the map cursor, and map background settings, making it easier to visualize your survey paths.

New analysis variables

Analysis variables to describe the shape of aggregations such as fish schools have been added to our extensive suite of metrics, including corrected elongation, fractal dimension, rectangularity, and two unevenness equations, making analysis more intuitive and versatile.

Echoview-15-school-classification

School regions representing targets such as biological aggregations can be automatically classified in Echoview. In this example, schools were labeled as one of three classes based on their elongation, i.e., the ratio of the school’s length to thickness.

Easier exports and analyses

The introduction of Exporter objects in the Dataflow allows custom exports to be preconfigured and saved, making it easier to repeat multiple exports within a project, saving time and ensuring consistency.

Operators

We’ve added operators to review MS70 data and EK80 impedance measurements, and new ways to explore bottom classification results for single beam data. These updates provide more flexibility and precision for exploring complex hydroacoustic datasets, helping users gain deeper insights into their data and hardware performance.
